Burton-Taylor Report Estimates Mainland China Market Data Spend Has Topped USD740 million, Local Vendors Command 76% Share

Combined data from Burton-Taylor and Robert Agnew of Marlin & Associates estimates China financial information/analysis demand to have grown at 42.1% CAGR since 2003, domestic vendors increasing relative share

Burton-Taylor International Consulting LLC, November 10, 2011 -- Burton-Taylor International Consulting LLC, a leading information and news industry market research, strategy and business consulting organization, today published a report estimating mainland China financial market data/analysis spend will reach USD745.4 million by the end of 2011. As a follow-up to their 2009 report, which estimated mainland China spend at USD339.8 million, and quickly became the industry standard on the subject, Burton-Taylor has collaborated with Robert Agnew, partner at Marlin & Associates, to share data and refine estimates to create the most accurate China reporting to date.

What has historically been an opaque market, has now been revealed to have averaged 42.1% annual growth over the last eight years. In addition to documenting the rapid growth of market data demand in China, the report shows that domestic data providers have been growing at an even faster rate than their international counterparts.

With combined revenue of USD567.9 million, Wind, Da Zhi Hui/Great Wisdom and an array of other local China vendors, many not well known to Western market data competitors or analysts, command a 76.2% share of the mainland market. The two largest international players are Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters, with combined revenue of USD154.0 million generated from the country.

Continued evolution of the financial markets, combined with asset management fees in China totaling as much as USD16.0 billion in 2011, is fueling the purchase of more detailed and sophisticated investment data and tools by market participants in the country.

“Although we expected to see rapid growth in the demand for financial information in China, the magnitude has been even greater than most could reasonably have predicted,” says Douglas B Taylor, Managing Partner of Burton-Taylor. “Combining Burton-Taylor data with that of Robert Agnew, partner at Marlin & Associates, has enabled us to further refine our estimates and produce a report with the most accurate mainland China market sizings to date.”

“Growth of this magnitude draws substantial competition and will result in increasing demand for the information products and tools that enable market participants to both differentiate themselves and maximize return,” adds Robert Agnew, partner at Marlin & Associates. “This first collaboration with Burton-Taylor has improved the quality of estimates at both companies and, we hope, will continue for future reports in other countries.”

“Burton-Taylor are proud to release our 43 page report ‘China Financial Market Data/Analysis Market Share 2012 - Key Competitors’ which includes profiles of the top ten largest market data vendors in China, as well as the key market share figures for each,” Taylor says. “This report will help market data vendors, users and industry analysts more clearly see one of the fastest growing and most unique opportunities in history.”
