Found: US$2 Billion in Hidden Demand - Global Financial Information Survey Results

- Revenue, Sharing & Piracy Estimates, June 2009

Request this report free of charge now, through the link below

Burton-Taylor measured the global spend on financial information and analysis at US$23 billion, exit 2008. According to a new B-T survey of 80 executives at market data vendors and client companies, there is an additional US$8 billion in pirated usage from ID/Password sharing and from internet scraping. The industry experts estimate that roughly one-fourth of users sharing IDs/Passwords would purchase if tools were available to enable information companies to accurately and affordably target and approach them. These users represent US$2 billion in current, hidden, addressable demand that requires no new product development, no new staffing and no significant investment to secure. This Burton-Taylor report details the findings of the survey and suggests remediation action to capture the revenue.

High Level Findings

This Burton-Taylor survey indicates:

  • ID/Password sharing increases the number of subscription market data and analysis users by 37.4% worldwide.

  • Internet scraping and redistribution increases the user population by 34.4% globally.

  • 23.7% of ID/Password sharers of subscription services would be willing to subscribe if approached.

  • An addressable but un-monetized market of USD$2 billion in new revenue exists within the industry.

  • The successful monetization of hidden or un-commercialized demand requires detailed data illustrating usage and sharing demographics, structured analysis to unearth and quantify targets, innovative strategic planning to address opportunities with unique policies or offerings, and in-depth measurement of success.

Burton-Taylor International Consulting LLC and AdmitOne Security maintain an exclusive relationship delivering the financial information and analysis industry’s only  data sharing and piracy targeting, remediation and monetization tools and services. B-T and AdmitOne help subscription information companies significantly increase revenue and reduce business risk by utilizing proven, proprietary methods to:

  • Monitor and report data usage, sharing and piracy

  • Benchmark, profile and quantify revenue leakage and growth opportunities

  • Define customized and actionable remediation and revenue capture plans

Markit fires starting gun on long-awaited IPO

Lance Uggla has made Markit into one of the world’s biggest providers of financial information.
Markit, the UK data company that has made a business out of providing transparency to dimly lit corners of financial markets, is about to find itself in the spotlight.
By confidentially filing for an initial public offering in New York, it has fired the starting gun on an long-awaited flotation. Markit declined to comment on “rumours or speculation”, but for many observers a listing would provide an insight into whether one of London’s most admired financial start-ups can keep up its past growth rates.  Full Story
